The Hull lounge was named after its intricate form, inspired by traditional boat building techniques. Epitomising the resourceful nature of Australian made furniture the Hull lounge is constructed entirely from a single sheet of Eco plywood.
Using the limited resources of Australian manufacture as a positive constraint the Hull lounge avoids use of any moldings or secondary components, intricately scoring plywood instead to achieve uncompromised compound forms. Designed from the inside out the Hull lounge is incredibly efficient, made using only one single sheet of FSC rated Eco plywood to form a lounge. Tapering in all directions the Hull lounge forms a minimal slim lounge with subtle curvature to ensure comfort.
With seamless upholstery from every angle, the Hull lounge avoids any zips or fittings and comes finished with solid timber or natural fabric base, made entirely in Sydney, Australia.
The Hull range features single and double seat lounge with low back options with or without wingback options. With its seamless upholstery, the Hull lounge avoids any visible appearance of zips or fittings. The collection is available in fabric, leather or solid timber base. A memory return swivel base is also available for single lounges and small ottoman.
Honest Design, true to materials and it’s process.
Tom Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design, conveying a design process which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products, to design from the inside out. By using the materials and environment as a positive design constraint we guide intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes which connect with people through natural materials, tactile finishes and unique design. We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment.
Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Working across Europe and Australia Tom Fereday went onto found his sole practice in 2012.
